Thanks John:
Yes your assumptions are correct. We want to do a swap that is as complete as possible. We will use the wiring harness and ECU,what we are not sure about is whether we have to fabricate engine mounts (is it a direct fit) and the intake /throttle-body configuration.
Thanks

Clive

I did the swap using an 88 635Csi eng, wiring harness, ECU, intake manifold, injtrs, and throttle body to my 85 535i. I spiced 12 wires to complete this swap. From your msg, I cannot tell if you are doing a complete swap or a partial swap. It seems like your using the 735 ECU ie lengthing the wires, then using the the E24 intake manifold with the E24 throttle body because you have to? I can provide the answers but its difficult to tell what parts your using. I do have one specific ?. The sites I checked for this swap stated that the later model 3.5L eng had different mounts than the early 3.5L. Eng mounts would have to be fabricated for an eng that was NOT an 88/89 635CSi. Are you going to fabricated eng mounts or have you found the eng to be a direct fit?
