Check the wiring and relays like Bob suggested. The relays are a common problem and an easy fix. I had a similar problem that turned out to be bad solder joints in the ECU.

Hi gang.
I'm hoping for some insight from you all. Tonight my M6 died on the freeway...just a sudden loss of power, followed shortly by the engine dying. After having the car towed home, i tried starting it again just for kicks. The car immediately started and idled normally. The car had run just fine up until the moment it died, no clues of any kind. Is it the ECU? Any and all comments and/or experiences are appreciated.
