My 1985 M635 suffered from a similar problem, and in my case, was due to the gaskets between the cylinder head and individual inlets leaking, this was given away by slight blackening in this area
on the aluminium, I don't know if this is particulary uncommon but its worth a check, I replaced them myself, and it vastly improved the idle and engine pickup.
With ref to your question earlier about "plastic fender flares" yes these are the original fitment when 415 TRX's are fitted, in fact if you look at the underside of the lip, you will see the BMW symbol and part number moulded in the plastic.
Hope this helps.

Besides checking the distributor cap, spark plugs and wires. In what order should I trouble shoot a very rough idle. It seems to run smooth when accelerating but it's hard to tell. I have never driven another M6 to compare it with. But it's performance doesn't really kick in until it hits 3000 to 3500 RPMs
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Adam
