The stock one weighs 22lbs for the one that is used on the M30 b34 motor(E28 535i). The early ones use the same flywheel as the M5/M6 which is I believe 16lbs and came on the pre '84 (E28 533i) and other cars. The only way to really tell is to weigh the one you have. I would also suggest lightening that down to 15lbs because Top End not only lightens, but resurfaces and zero balances. They also install new guide pins. At $150 who can beat that?

I got mine from Top End Performance and I have a smooth idle and the car now revs like a E30 325i. I love mine and would never go back. BTW, I would also use the M5/M6 clutch with it. All the part numbers are listed in my technical articles page.

I bought a custom 8 lb aluminum one from Paeco. Not cheap $600 though.
Works very well, I too upgraded the clutch.

Doesn't the stock flywheel weight around 18 lb?
Still a smooth idle at 750rpm....
Actually any good machine shop will do this for about the same price. I once had 3 lb removed from my 2002 flywheel (and resurfaced, balanced) for $120. No big deal.
Either you can buy from Top End or have your stock one done, same difference.
I believe the early flywheels weigh around 18 lbs... at least that's what my weighed at the time I removed it.
The M5 clutch & friction disc was around 10 lbs by itself....

PS :My car can idle at 500rpm smooth if I play with it enough! :-)
