In Reply to: FOUND RUST !!! Should I sell? HELP posted by Joe on March 03, 2001 at 22:50:04:
Today I found a rust spot on my 1988 635csi. It is located on the top of the rear right fender right on the lip. It is the only spot of rust in the whole car and I thought it was a stone ship until I started playing with it and it went through the metal. I cleaned it up and took all the rust out and the whole is now about 1/2" by 1/4". After looking throughout the car for other possible spots I started thinking about fixing it but I don't want to start seeing rust poping out all over the place. The car is very good shape and it has a new suspension, transmission, 17" wheels and more. Is it worth to fix it or should I sell it? This thing is really killing me now.
Please, I need your opinion on this one. I really do.
Thanks
Joe
Last month I bought myself a '86 635 with exactly the same problem. I has been perfectly repaired (new piece of body panel moulded in and resprayed) for just $200,-(!). It was done by someone who is a moulding teacher (is that a good description?) on a techical highschool.
Where as more commercial garages asked for at least $700,-.
So don't sell, you can repair these cars into eternity.
Good luck,
Marcel Zeeuw.
