Understeer feels like the car is pushing to the outside of a corner...you're turning the wheel but the car wants to go straight. Oversteer gives the sensation that the car is carving the corner. With rear drive you can usually produce oversteer with moderate acceleration through a turn. With front drive, accelerating through a turn usually produces understeer...the car will just plow through the turn. Different alignments will vary the results. In general, oversteer is good, understeer is bad. LSD vs Open diff will affect this as well. Take the car on a sweeping entrance ramp and apply a little throttle without changing the clock of the steering wheel. If it begins to turn tighter you're producing oversteer, if it drifts to the outside you're producing understeer. You'll see which is better.
