Hearing that Anson or (anybody for that matter) is coming out soon with a new release 635 is very appealing. I have purchased at least 2 old unbuilt models and felt very let down both times. One was a 10th or 12th scale Ferrari GTO. Build the first 25% (engine etc) and discovered the body was warped. Probably from sitting in the sun somewhere. It was bad enough that nothing would fit and I only kept a few of the pieces as donors for other cars - still unused. The other was a 24th scale BMW 3.0CSL race car. It went together fine but the decals were junk. Again, probably from sun or simple age they all just fell apart upon trying to mount them. I still have the model (completely built and on display) but a race car without any decals looks sort of silly.
I always build the kits. Having them unbuilt and stuck in a closet somewhere is like owning the real car and having it stored far away and never driven. Why bother. I have about 80 cars now. Mostly 24th to 1/18th and of just about any marque. Anything less rarely has any detail. Not long ago I bought a 1/18th 850CS. It was a weird metalic maroon or something and I disassembled and repainted it red. Looks far better now.

Useful info...

Call me obsessive, but I've got a serious collection 6'er propaganda and rare Euro parts in a safe place. The metal model I have is a Bburago kit titled "BMW 635 CSi, cod.5173". It is an exact 1/26 scale reproduction of my 1981 Euro 635 and comes with the Schnitzer Team's "Original BMW Teile" racing stickers depicting the car's parts on the exterior already-white-painted surface. It is a model kit you assemble partially. Steering works, trunk/doors/hood all open and seats fold forward like the real thing. Like the real deal, the body is unibody and comes assembled already in steel.
The kit was purchased by my girlfriend as a gift for me 10 years ago from a hobby shop in Santa Clara, CA. It was originally produced Feb. 18, 1983 in Italy. It's an international kit, quite the collectible piece. Here is Bburago's address in Italy: Bburago Spa - P.O. Box 11, 20040 Burago Molgora MI (Italy).

The unassembled (couldn't decide on a color to paint it) plastic kit I have is the Tamiya "BMW M635CSi 1/24 Sports Car Series Model #58". It comes with actual 1/24 scale TRX rubber tires on BBS RS chromed wheels, transparent plastic turn signals, Euro plates etc. - greatly detailed kit. The instruction manual and box say "Item 24058" on them. The manual even gives a brief synopsis of BMW M635 heritage. VERY COLLECTIBLE
Here is Tamiya's address as printed on the instruction manual and box:
Tamiya Plastic Model Company
3-7 Ondawara, Shizuoka-City, Japan.

BTW, Tamiya importing and distribution used to be (and might still be) handled by:
Model Rectifier Corporation (aka MRC)
Edison, New Jersey, 08817.
Give them a call, there must be one on a shelf somewhere.

Hope this helps and the addresses are current- btw, I'm not parting with my delights for any $um.

Austin

Prefer 1/24 or larger. 1/1 would be even better but for the moment a model will do. I have the chrystal one from Mikasa already.
