OOPS hit the wrong button previous message blank. I've had several long distance possabilities. The first had no inspection,i bought and got burned and I learned! Have it inspected!!!! You could find the numbers of the local BMW dealers closest to your seller(Thru BMW's web site) & have him drop it off for a pre-purchase inspection for $88.00 or whatever the locals charge for the hourly rate. You could pay for it in advance to BMW with a credit card. They will also do a compression & leakdown for an additional hour charge IT IS WELL WORTH IT!!!!.DON'T BUY WITHOUT ONE. YOU'LL SAVE YOURSELF A LOT OF HEARTACHE LATER! I hope it checks out then enjoy the ride!!!Looking long distance at an 89 with less than 50K on the clock - original owner - all records. This is a long distance transaction.
What should I do in terms of inspection? What are the most important things to look out for and have checked out?
Appreciate any and all advice.

I'm not nearly as adept as most of the very helpful folks on this site, but I recently went through a long distance purchase of my '88. I started by finding out from the owner who had been doing the maintenance on the car. I then had a long chat with them. When comfortable, I found a friend-of-a-friend in the area who was kind enough to give the car a look and test drive. Worked OK for me. Aside from this apprpoach, I believe there are organizations that do inspection work. Good luck!
