Euro M6 1986 now has 152k miles. Engine rebuilt at 76k miles (new piston rings bearings tensioner pad but no chain!)cost £3200 incl VAT.
At 151k miles timing chain, sprockets, guides, tensioner pads etc done - cost £1200 incl VAT.
Engine still very strong - could do with valve clearances doing on inlets but otherwise pull like a train. Uses no oil.

I'd be interested to know the mileage of everyone's S38 engine. I'm interested in longevity. How long do these engines go before they need a rebuild? Is it as good as other bimmer engines? I had an '86 528e that went 260,000 before giving up the ghost. Will an M6 do that? I'm currently at 94k. What are the weaknesses in the S38, or maintenance issues to watch for?
