I have a turbo on a 635 and have detonation problems. I need to retard the ignition timing. Anyone know about any kits to install new timing system.

There is supposed to be a "fuel quality" switch on the motronic that will retard timing a few degrees. It is mentioned on this site:(http://www.unofficialbmw.com/all/motronic/all_fqs.html)
I'm running an MSD ignition (6AL) on my turbo and it seems ok as long as I run it kind of rich.
I think it will detonate more when the head gets really hot so a richer mixture might help. Also, a big intercooler or lower boost could help the situation. A wider plug gap will retard timing slightly, but may also give a shorter hotter spark. Maybe Bob or someone with more technical knowledge can help more.
