The "thingo" in question appears to be an aftermarket BMW fuel bowl. It's labeled 1286360 BISCHOFF 1284337 and does not appear in my Chilton book.

It's not the fuel pressure regulator, for sure, because the fuel line running to the front end of the engine first runs into the fuel bowl "thingo" and then into the fuel pressure regulator, appropriately labelled 2.5bar.

I removed the leaky fuel bowl "thingo", left the other one on, and took a high RPM spin around the block. No problems starting, driving, or re-starting.

I doubt a shadetree mechanic would have put these on the fuel lines for no reason, particularly if they used a genuine BMW part. Can anyone in the group predict what malady will occur in the near future now that I've removed this part?

Please help me with a 84 633csi problem.

The fuel line closest to the firewall hooks into a round "thingo" (I don't know what the thingo is!) that developed a nasty drip earlier today. I noticed that there is an identical "thingo" on the second fuel line that runs to the front of the engine.

The "thingo" is about 3/4 of an inch thick, so it's not a filter, I'm guessing it's some sort of one way valve or something.

Can someone more experienced in fuel system diagnostics (that must be everyone else here) tell me what the "thingo" is, where I can get one, and how much it should cost?

Thanks!!
