They are ORIGINAL!
It took me 4 hours just to REMOVE them!
Both strut housings were rusted to the lower control arm, I had to bang a screwdriver between the 2 to knock them loose.
Both housing caps were rusted on so bad I had to cut them off.
I broke 2 of the lower bolts just removing them! (there are 3 per side total)
1 of the control arm bolts would not loosen at all, had to cut it. (New pair on order, why not? ; ) )
The shock mouting towers literally crumbled in my hand.
The minute I got them off and emptied I coated them both with POR-15 (www.por15.com, possibly the best paint in the world for coating rusted items, goes right on rust and LASTS! I use it on my jeep religeously)
Also went to the dealer and bought new bolts all around (caliper, housing, etc) I would have bought them at a hardware store but some of them just aren't carried in the thread pitch BMW uses. (Big surprise)
WHAT A PAIN IN THE ASS! But is was fun, the finished job is going to be well worth it! My freshly painted strut housings and springs are going to looks much better as well!
Overall, it isn't a bad car to work on at all! It isn't as easy as my jeep but still it's fun.
CAN'T WAIT TO DRIVE IT!
