Hi List members,
I have an 88 635csi auto which I have owned for six months. The car has a noticeable problem and seems to become "confused" as to which gear it is in on deceleration from speed. This is particularly noticeable at lower speeds say 40-50 kms/hr when the car is not under throttle. Initially I thought this was some sort of tranny problem but the guys from the local BMW shop said it was more likely to be throttle related. Apart from this the car is great and I would appreciate any feedback as to likely problem areas and associated costs.
Many thanks,
Dean L.

I'm guessing that it an auto tranny. Check the adjustment of the throttle position switch. It should be adjusted so that it either closes or opens (damn I can't remember which) just as the throttle closes. Also, you might try lubrication the htrottle cable and linkages. Failing that, it may be a problem with the tranny computer or electrical connections.

HTH
