You need to get under the car and locate the shifting levers on the side of the transmission and manually move them all into neutral. Then, you might be able to gingerly shift the car with the shift lever, being very deliberate and slow through the shift pattern.
This can happen when the linkage wears out through high miles, or improper shifting, speed shifting, and such. Sounds like you need at least all new bushes, but I would bet a rebuild of the whole shift linkage is in order. I am talking about the linkage outside on top of the trans, not inside the transmission.
Go carefully on this one, and be sure all the gears are disengaged (by the outside levers) before attempting to drive and/or shift. I've had this happen before, and it's not really a big problem, but if it starts happening, it will happen again unless you fix the linkage properly.
