I just did this, so pull up a chair:

First things first, allocate a full day to it.

Pull off the transmission boot or cover (mine was a cover for the Auto). There are three screws holding the top panel in, two underneath the ash tray (you pulled that out allready right?) and one under the cover/shift boot.

The screws are out right? Set them aside and pull out the window switches, all four, and set them aside.

Pull that center grill thing off if you havent allready.

There are now three more screws (I think there is three) that you gotta pull. They are easy to get to spots. Pull them out and set them aside.

Now you have to pull off the interior panel that is below the steering wheel. Also I pulled the glovebox out.

Pull that center console piece out *BE CAREFUL* its made out of pressed fiber board and is EXTREMELY brittle. I broke mine...

Now you should have access to the fan and evaporator.

To get this thing out, you gotta have the A/C system evacuated, so get that done.

I have heard of folks not evac-ing it, but I couldn't figure out how to get the whole assembly out with out doing that.

There are two lines that run into the evaporator, unscrew those.

CAREFULLY *TWIST* the evap/fan unit up and out. There is a little doo-dad that sticks down into the underside of the car that allows condensation to drain out.

One other little catch (the part that cost me lots of $$$) be CAREFUL with the little tube that runs into the evaporator.

Pull the assembly out of the car, set it down, and grab flat head screwdriver. Start prying the clips off. Pull ever so gently (I used a sledge hammer =)) on the top part and they should seperate.

There it is, the fan!

Good luck, it really sucks to do....

What's up guys,

I'm having some trouble getting to my AC fan, I know its behind the grill on the center console but I'm not sure what I have to do to get to it. I don't want to start unscrewing everything in sight without some sort of idea about what I'm doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated, it's squeaking and its driving me nuts.
