Here's my situation. 1979 633csi in good condition is what I currently have. M spoilers chrome mirrors and freeflow exhaust. Interior is ok except for front seats. Car is a head turner and I absolutely love it. current probs include nonworking a/c, need new bilsteins all around, rear differential is bad and tranny is going bad and 3 of 4 window motors are broken.

being offered to me by an associate is an 88 m6 schwarz? black/white paint is ok, interior is very good. body is clean and straight. he is the original owner. mileage is 98k. no major problems that i have found yet aside from maybe a self-leveling issue. price to me is 8k.
i love my 6er but always wanted it to be an m6. any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks and happy motoring,
Dart

So you love your baby, but its gonna need several thousand dollars worth of work to restore it. And you have a chance to pick up an M6 for well below market value. I would go for it. You'll always wonder what it would have been like.

For what its worth, I had an '85 euro 635 that I truly loved. Bronzit color, with a perfect interior and good paint. Ran like a clock. Great car. Then I saw an ad for a '86 M635 that this shop was selling. Drove over there and looked at it. That's when the trouble started! I couldn't get the damn car out of my mind! I agonized over it for a few weeks. Went back and drove it again. And then again. I even created a spreadsheet listing the pros and cons of each car!! (I can be a bit anal at times)

In the end, I bought the M635. And I've never regretted it. Sure its quite a bit more expensive to maintain. And significantly more expensive to insure. But when I get that car on a twisty road ... sigh ... I'm telling you, man --- its better than sex!

Sounds like a killer deal. Go for it.
