Pre 82 cars were built on the E12 chassis
Post 82 cars use the E28 chassis
There are also quite a few components common with E23 and even E30. Suggest you beg borrow a steal a copy of the MT CD as this gives 'parts usage' which is damn useful when 'ferreting about in scrap yards'

I'm starting to hear that some components of the early 635CSi cars were built around the same vintage 5 series cars. Is there much in common, if anything? Sheet metal, drivetrain, interior bits, suspension, or what have you?
