This is probably NOT your problem, but it could be a contributing factor..

I wonder how new your flashlight is. Perhaps it is NOS ( new old stock ) which BMW had in stock for some undetermined time. I would check all contact points such as the switch, lamp holder, and battery contacts. Those things are notorious for corroding. You could use a pencil eraser to clean them. If they're really corroded, use a fine emery cloth or steel wool.
