Mr. Barrett graciously avoids condemning any specific individual or transaction. No, with
his "axiom" that you can't cheat an honest man,
this apparent, self-serving rogue declares
that everyone who is cheated is dishonest. This is the cheat's quintessential tack of
dodging guilt by attributing his base morals to
his victims.

The phrase that one used to hear was, "You can't
bullshit a bullshitter." This statement is less
false since a person judges by his own frame of
reference.

However, the whole range of people can be
deceived. The only person you can't deceive
is the person who is completely informed (by
definition). Unfortunately, it is usually
(but not always) the seller who has the
information and it's impossible, difficult or
impractical to get it elsewhere. At any rate,
the playing field is almost never level.

Based on his rationalization philosophy, I'd bet
money that Mr. Bill Barrett takes advantage of
people. When deciding whether to trust people
you have to be smart and look at clues like the
one Mr. Barrett dropped.

I'm often troubled by the apparent belief there are two sets of rules for buyers and sellers. If the buyer believes (for whatever reason) he get is getting a car thousands below reasonable value, it is perceived, bragged about, and applauded as a "good deal." If it turns out in the end (again, for whatever reason) the same car is only worth pretty much what was paid, it seen as a rip off and there are cries to circle the lawyers.
I believe the law supports a level playing field heralded by "caveat emptor." Which maybe should be interpreted as "...buyer and seller beware..."

I have always ascribed to the axiom "You can't cheat an honest man." Because an honest man gets what he pays for and pays for what he gets.
Best of luck on resolving this matter. These are and only my opinions, not accusations, or specifically related to any specific transaction or individual.
