I'll totally agree and wish to add my thanks as well.....
Saturday morning I took my 85 6 out for a drive. About 30 minutes into the drive it started running like crap. Since I just bought the car and didn't know when it last had a tune up, I decided the best way to spend a 95 degree day was to do a complete tune up. Much to my horror, when I pulled the distributor cap off it was filled with oil!!! I had visions of removing the head or other equaly unpleasant jobs. The Bently manual had no information on this phenomenon so I fired up my other high perfomance toy (my PC), and came here. A quick search of the archives found several references to my problem, a simple failed oil seal behind the rotor. After a 3 hour round trip to my favorite BMW parts place, Bavarian Autosport (thanks guys)and $400 dollars later I had lots of new parts. After 3 hours work in the aforemensioned 95 degree heat, I was on the road better than before. Thank you to all of those who contribute their knowlage to this board. It is an incredible reference for an e24 owner.
