In Reply to: What does the "A" in the model "635CSiA" mean? posted by Tony NC '86 635CSi on June 17, 2001 at 23:30:57:

e = economy
iC = i before c means convertible
L = Luxury (a one year production series for E24 and E23 1987)
t = Touring (hatchback)
d = diesel
x = 4 wheel drive

That is the model of my car as it is listed on the panel located on the driver-side door. I can't imagine that it means "automatic", because my car is a 5-spd. (and always has been--I bought it from a family friend who was the original owner).

The model tag is also followed by the letters "US", which I interpret to mean that the car was manufactured specifically for exporting to the US and therefore meets all federal specifications.

As always, thanks for taking the time to respond.
