: I have an 1988 528e, that I bought new in September 1988, and always thought it was a e28, but yesterday was told by another 'enthusiest' that the cars made after June of that year were the e34 cars, and the parts are not all interchangeable, like the shocks, etc. Does anybody know exactly what my car would be classified as?? Am now curious as to what will interchange and what will not. Can anybody help with this?

Certainly. Given the fact that it is a 528e, it is an E28. There was no such model in the E34. The E34 equivalent (replacement) was the 525i. There is a difference, however, in that the later "e"'s had the "Super -eta" engine, which through a different control module and other minor adjustments put out a little more oomph and had a higher rev limit than the earlier cars.

Otherwise, enjoy your E28!

'84 533i "Klaus"
