: I need some help. I was going to install a DINAN chip in my 1988 528e, but was told by a local 'enthusiast' that it would not improve my car that much because BMW did just that in the final year of the 528e series. Says they tweeked the engine to improve response and milage, and installing a chip wouldn't accomplish that much. Called DINAN and they said it would. Now I'm confused. Can anybody help with some info, or can someone who has done it let me know how much it did change the driving of the car.
: Thanks in advance:
John, I wanted to do the same with my '88 528e. Jim C. wrote me back a note saying he doesn't make one for our model because you only gain about 4hp out of it and it's not really worth the price. He also indicated that another manufacturer (and he was nice -- didn't mention any names) would be glad to sell one for a couple hundred bucks. So if 4hp is worth it, you can buy a Dinan. I opted to keep mine stock and save the money. I asked Dinan about it via email and they've never responded. I checked their web site and the numbers on their chart don't make any sense to me. There may be an error on it. (note: I just checked the Dinan web site and discovered they removed the horsepower chart they used to have, so I don't know what claim now).
