: : Okay I know this is an old subject but, I need help! I just ordered a set of MAS 16x7.5 20mm offset factory replice mags and Nitto 225/50/16VR from Discount Tire Direct, and I want to know if they will rub. The car is lowered about 1.5 inches. Thanks in advance, also if so, how? I've heard of people using a baseball bat.

: There is a decent possibility that they won't rub. It really depends on the specific tire model, some tires marked "225" can be much smaller or much bigger. THis varies between different models from the same manufacturer so there's no set rule that X brand is wider.

: So what you need to do first is test them - mount them on the car and see of they rub.

: If they do rub, you can make more room under the fenders two ways:

: 1) Roll the fenders using a bat. This method is unpredictable and needs to be done very carefully, and also has the possibility of causing visible damage. You want to lightly tap-tap-tap the inner fender lip with a wooden baseball bat until it starts to roll up.

: 2) Trim the fenders using a rotary cutter. Mac and Snap-on both make air-powered rotary cutters, it's a 2" or 3" disk. You need access to pressurized air, of course, and having the car up in the air on a lift makes accessing the fenders easier. You can cut almost right up to the fender edge. Work slowly and the cut will come out nice and clean.
