This is the cabin temp sensor. It has a vacumm line attached to it to draw in a little bit of cabin air so it can sample it. On the engine side you should have a small restrictor (brass plug with a small hole) installed in the vacumm line so that it doesn't draw to much air. Even if the line is broken it shouldn't affect drivability as long as that restrictor is installed. But plugging it up may affect how quickly the temp control responds.

: Okay, during a recent campain on fixing drivability problems on my 88'535 I came across a sensor that I'm not sure what it does. It has a vac line running from the bottom of the intake through the firewall to the bottom of the under dash cover. I assume its related to the climate controls, but upon plugging the vac line (for several days) it did'nt seem to affect anything. Anyone have a clue? Thanks
