Hmm, I wish I would have known the wholesale/retail price thing, I would have tried to get it through a dealer. Even at $400, the price seemed pretty reasonable. Oh well, as long as it works, I will be happy!
BTW, why did you need a new ECU for your car? Did it just stop working? It surprises me that these apparently fail quite often. I would not necessarily expect that, as the ECU does not have any moving parts, etc. in it and it is pretty well protected on its perch in the glovebox.
: : I need to get a new ECU for my 535i. The dealer wants $730 for a Bosch rebuilt one. I can get one rebuilt by Programa with a 3 year warranty for $404. Junkyard ones seem to be about $250. Given all of these numbers, the Programa rebuild sounds like the way to go.
: : Anyone ever used them? Anyone else have any problems with their ECU?
: : Thanks!

: I got a Programa ECU for my '85 535i and it seems to be working fine. As I understand it, Programa will sell to the public at a "retail" price like the one that you mentioned, in order to protect their relationship with the auto repair trade. I believe that your mechanic could buy a Programa unit from a Programa parts wholesaler at a much better price (I think my guy paid around $200 and charged me a reasonable profit above that).
