I agree that it is good to use a sunscreen in the windshield. My car is garaged about 95% of its life, but when it is outside, we use the screen. Maybe that's why we have one of remaining non-cracked or warped dashes!

Anyways, I did get the ECU from Programa for $404. Plugged it in, and everything has been fine. Have taken a couple of 100 mile trips, with no problems. I think its solved!

: Age and heat can cause the ecu to fail. A local newspaper her in Austin(TX) ran a story a few days ago about temp inside a car and on the dash. They put a skillet on a black dash and put bacon and eggs in the skillet. They recorded 160 degrees and even melted a plastic thermometer. The black dashes in the E28 are an oven here in the summer and that is why most crack big time. Use a good windshield screen or even a white towel laid on the dash and you can protect those expensive electronis hidden in the "oven".

: 84 533i with a new dash cover soon

: : I need to get a new ECU for my 535i. The dealer wants $730 for a Bosch rebuilt one. I can get one rebuilt by Programa with a 3 year warranty for $404. Junkyard ones seem to be about $250. Given all of these numbers, the Programa rebuild sounds like the way to go.

: : Anyone ever used them? Anyone else have any problems with their ECU?

: : Thanks!
