I agree with your point, and yes +23 might rub the strut with a 225, but with a 205 it looks good, fits, and significantly reduces front end shudder. (less pitching momentum)

On the other hand, like I stated, "the correct offset is that which positions the wheel correctly", and this number might change from wheel to wheel, tire to tire, or car to car.
