Not only can you put 17" by 8" on your car, you can go up to 18" by 8.5". This is what I have on my e28 right now. I am using Niche Pultecs with an 18mm offset. No modifications were needed up front using 235\40r18's, but some major modifications were neede in the rear to fit 255\35r18's. Not only is the lip shaved, but I had to trim some of the inner fender and use seem sealer to fill the gap. My car is however lowered. Perhaps using a 15mm offset in the rear with a 235 tire you may be able to avoid some of the work. I also had to massage the rear fenders out a little, but without knowing this you would not be able to tell. With this wheel-tire combo the car has a great stance to it.

is it possible to put a 17" x 8" wheel on an '88 535is?? i know that i miht have to roll the fender...is this hard? i would rather not roll the fender so IS IT AT ALL POSSIBLE TO PUT 17X8 INCH WHEELS ON MY 535IS?????
