Window Channel Replacement (archive)

I have a 1986 model 528e. The windown channel on the driver's side window has a gap on the vertical portion above the door handle end of the door.

Does anyone have any experience with the replacement of the window channel? The Bentley manual doesn't address this subject. I assume the windown must be remove and have noted the comments in the Bentley manual about the window removal.

Does the channel come in one piece or three pieces?

Is the channel material glued into position or is it held in mechanically?
