I really wrung it out in the test drive (my wife did the white-knuckle thing) and it handles great. Damn, the brakes worked so well that I'm now planning brakework on my own 5er. The only detractions are a slight popping noise, which I isolated to the left front strut tower. Also, the paint is in pretty good shape, but it has a couple of minor rough spots which aren't readily apparent until you start looking. Oh, the tach has stopped working just recently. The A/C blows nice cold air and the motor does not overheat. The PO had the bumpers painted black and all the chrome blacked out to get the M5 look. Sorry I didn't think to get the VIN but I don't see anything in the car or the owner that worries me.
I was considering this car for one of my twin teenage boys, but the spousal unit talked me out of the car and into a new couch and carport cover. (Please tell me I'm not the only guy on this board to buckle under such pressure) I'd have gone for the car, except for the carport (I can work on my 2002 and 5er in the driveway and not bake under this Texas sun). Such a covering will only aid and abet this terrible bimmer addiction I seem to have.
Anyway, I know several of you folks had expressed an interest in a 535is and this appears to be in pretty good shape. BTW, there is absolutely no association or relationship with the owner. It turns out that he's a pretty nice guy and the car is something I would have taken home. So maybe one of you can benefit.
If I can help in any other way, jsut drop me an e-mail and I'll do what I can.
