The channel comes in one piece with the bends in the correct places in the door, so orientation is important. You take off the door handle (which is in the manual), the mirror switch assembly and snap off the door cover (also in the manual). You then carefully pry off the clear plastic that's adhesed to the door metal - if you have some clear plastic sheet which is available in well-stocked plastics places, then rip it off. Where it tears badly, you can use shipping tape to patch it all up when you finish. I found that if you get a bowl of warm soapy water and a paint brush handy, and you brush the channel before shoving the rubber down is a lot easier - otherwise it'll stick like glue and nothing happens. Careful to not get any soapy water inside the new channel rubber... Work pretty quickly, shoving the channel until the, let's say the inside 90-degree bend in the rubber meets the bend in the door. If you work too slowly, as I did in the beginning, the heat of the day dried the soapy water and it was glue time. However, once wetted again, it's better to shove and keep going until you stop at an orientation/bend place. It's really not hard, but like all things, until you've done it - it's pokey going.
Good luck,

I have a 1986 model 528e. The windown channel on the driver's side window has a gap on the vertical portion above the door handle end of the door.
Does anyone have any experience with the replacement of the window channel? The Bentley manual doesn't address this subject. I assume the windown must be remove and have noted the comments in the Bentley manual about the window removal.
Does the channel come in one piece or three pieces?
Is the channel material glued into position or is it held in mechanically?
Any and all comments welcome.
