This is not always the case though because I put on BBS RK 17x8 with 215/45/17 with a stock suspension and I have had them on for about 7-10 thousand miles and I have had no rubbing. This includes, how shall I say "spirited driving" I was concerned about fender rolling too but I was lucky I think I might try to stuff 220 under there next time but I think 225 might be pushing it, but you don't know until you try. Also with the 17's it tightens the car up and showcases the quality of the BMW suspension. If the link to my pictures doesn't work just let me know and I will fix it or something, and let me know what you think!

Tirerack and Direct Tire online are both good places to find wheels for the car. You probably won't be able to get Kosei's though. The bolt pattern on the car is 5x120mm, and you will need an offset of 20mm, which will limit the wheels you can put on the car. 8 inch will be too wide unless you are willing to roll the rear fenders, I have 17x7.5 on mine, and mine don't rub because the suspension is very stiff.

well when i went to tirerack i searched specifically for wheels that would fit an 87 535i, so i'm sure the pattern and offset are correct... but would tirerack account for potential rub? does anybody else have any possible insight into what size wheels and what profile tires pose a threat to rubbing on a 535is? thanks so much for all the advice
