Jack up the rear. Put the car in gear and leave the parking brake off. If you turn one wheel and the other turns the opposite direction without a lot of force, then you have an open diff. If it takes a considerable amount of force (about 30 lb-ft of torque) then you have a limited slip. If it takes more than a little, but less than a lot, you probably have a worn clutch pack in the LS unit. Now try putting the car in neutral. Turn one wheel. If the other wheel always turns the same direction and speed, then you have a limited slip.You can get a 40% - 70% lock rebuild (orig is 25%) for around $1200, or a good used LSD complete for around $300-400. Use Redline 75W90 gear oil for the diff, Redline MTL in the transmission.
