It is recommended that the timing belt be changed every 60,000. If the Prior Owner cannot provide proof of the belts replacement I would do it myself or have it done.....Its cheap insurance.
The job is pretty straightforward for a backyard mechanic. The belt and tensioner will cost you about $25.00. While you're at it, replace the water pump. The best advice is to get a Bently repair manual and thumb your nose at the repair shop. Cheers!
