Not too difficult for the shadetree mechanic. You'll need a big hammer, 22mm (for thrust arm bolt), 19mm, 17mm, blow-torch (for stuck balljoints), and your best friend, the Bentley manual.
The tie-rods and idler arm are the easiest and cheapest. After that, check your thrust arm bushings for cracks, etc. If they're the original style with gaps, then they're most likely toast. 750iL or urethane are your best options. New 535i thrust arm bushings will not last very long (about 30k miles). So why waste your time with them?
Good Luck
