if I'm correct (2nd hand info) to put a 535 engine in you'd have to put in a new tranny and a new brake booster too. You'd be better off selling the car and getting a 535i or putting a new cam from a 325i on the 528e block...

I'm looking into engine swaps in my recently purchased 1988 528e (218,000mi). What would you guys suggest for maximum performance upgrade at minimal price. How much of a difference would I get from a 535is? Should I look into new generation BMW engines. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

As I recall, that is an easy 325i head swap, cam, etc... toss in an LSD with some taller gears and you'll be a happy camper. I would like to drop that setup into an e21. Loook Ouuuut.....
