Trace the fuel circuit and you'll find your leak. Feed line comes up near the firewall to the fuel rail, runs through the rail to the regulator and the return line goes out the reg and back to the tank. There is also a rubber line feeding the cold start valve. I'd suspect the latter or the feed into the rail. You'll probably want to replace all the rubber lines at this point. Get OEM BMW hose - much better than the cheapo auto parts store stuff.

I have a 1988 535i. I drove the car from home to church (approximately 13 miles), just before I arrived at church, smoke entered car through the air vents. Once parked, I opened the hood of the car and gasoline was dripping from the engine compartment. It seemed to have originated from the direction of the fire wall. Help!!!! I suspect a busted fuel line, but not sure. If someone can give me the low down and an approximate cost for repairs (do-it-myself and dealer), along with insight on fixing, I'd really appreciate it. Normally I use the search engine, however, it's not available. By the way, I've used the sight to troubleshoot my Bimmer and to date have been able to fix everything myself. Kudos to those that put this sight together!
