87 535is Differential (archive)

What other model differentials will fit the 535? I have heard that there isw quite a bit of interchange possible. I am getting the inevitiable "clunk" and the mounts are solid. Not only that, when I turn the wheels with the rear raised, I get about a quarter turn of the wheel and then the "clunk".

Any help is appreciated.
