Don't have an owner's manual on the used 1985 535i. A/C fan works fine but when you take the push button off a/c, can't get the heater fan to work. Is there a trick?

Actually, your car has TWO fans. One for the A/C, which is mounted in the center console and the one for the heater which is mounted behind the firewall. Access to the heater fan is accomplished using a 7mm nut driver or socket. Remove all of the screws (about 6 or 7) and pull the firewall access panel away. Then release the clip that holds the motor in place (this clip looks a lot like the clips that hold the air filter housing halves together). Disconnect the wire and remove. This is an easy job for anyone with the available time.
