It could be that the low-fuel level switch in your fuel level sender is bad. That's what happened to my car ('86 528e) - a new sender fixed it. You can check it by shorting 2 of the 3 leads in the connector that plugs into the top of the sender - unfortunately I forget which are the correct leads to short! If you have the Bentley manual, it's in there - I'm at work so I can't look it up right now. When you short the correct leads, the low fuel light in your instrument panel should come on.
Hey everybody,
I've heard you guys talk about a low fuel light. I think mine's either broken or non-existent. I've had my gas tank down to 1.5 L (according to the OBC) and on the E mark, so where's this low fuel light? Any idea on how to fix it or to find out if it's even on my 85' 535i? Thanks a lot guys.
-Mike
