You could make anything fit, but the easiest would be another M20 motor (E30 325i). An M50 (E36 325i, E34 525i) would be neat too.


The M50 2.5 and 2.8 had about the same hp - 189, but the 2.8 had a bit more torque. This is a popular swap for the E30 but I have not heard of one done for an E28. There is no reason I can think of why it should not work with a 528e.
