I have a 87 535is an i took it to a friend to check a noise comming from the engine, he tould me that i need connecting rod bearing, which he said is very sample. my question is how long will the engine run after the work.????????

A better question is: How long will it run WITHOUT the work?

Assuming you DO have a rod knock, I would pull the oil pan and the rod caps and look for the problem IF a second opinion thinks it's from the bottom end as well. Pulling the pan is not that big a deal (Bentley).
