Only when hot? Then it's probably the same items as Mike suggested except for the opposite reasons. You see when you have long cranking times when cold, then the cold start injector isn't running but it should. That's why it's called a cold start injector. But when you have long cranking times when hot, then cold start injector is probably running but it shouldn't.

Does it do this all of the time? Or only when cold. If you're only having trouble when it's cold, it is probably the thermo-time switch, or cold start injector. Both are really easy to replace on your car.

Hi, i am 17 years old and proud of my new 84 528e, but in the past week or so, it has been almost as tempermental as a woman when i try and start it. It is just of and on that it needs a good 8+ seconds to finally start, it is turning over fine, and is not making any odd noises, but just has trouble catching. I am new to BMWs, is this a simple fix? Is there any easy way to determine what it is by myself so i dont have to go to a mechanic? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks,
Tom
