The key question and answer, as aleady suggested, is does this problem occur all of the time or just when cold. If the problem is just when the car is cold, then you might have a/some leaky injectors. The leaky injectors are causing the car to be flooded after sitting overnight(or when cold). And that is why it takes a few seconds to clear the fuel in the combustion chambers.

The other ideas that have been posted are good ideas as well.

Hi, i am 17 years old and proud of my new 84 528e, but in the past week or so, it has been almost as tempermental as a woman when i try and start it. It is just of and on that it needs a good 8+ seconds to finally start, it is turning over fine, and is not making any odd noises, but just has trouble catching. I am new to BMWs, is this a simple fix? Is there any easy way to determine what it is by myself so i dont have to go to a mechanic? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks,
Tom
