My fuel low light comes on, the OBC showed 0.0 L when I pressed the 1000 and 1 simultaneously. The 1000/0 showed 48.0L after fillup and the range was 383+. I have not checked the sending unit since these results would seem to indicate that it is working. This would seem to suggest it is the guage itself. How would I fix it if it were just the guage?

Check the fuel level sender for accurate readings - it's accesible through the floor of the trunk. The resistance between two of the leads varies with the level of the float in the gas tank - you can check it with an ohmmeter. Usual common sense warning - be very careful if you decide to pull the sender from the tank to avoid having anything that can cause a spark (like a drop light) or things can get very exciting very quickly!


Mea culpa! I reset my odometer while moving. After 170K miles it's dead. Looking for a good replacement instrument or a source for the gears. If you can help, please post.

The BMW tech told me he never changes the transmission filter; says they go bad early.

My fuel guage shows full at all times. Suggestions?

BTW, I just found this site today and my wife has been bugging me for some time now (hours)to get off the net. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
