After charging the battery was at 13.5. Started the car, dropped to 12.5 then slowly dropped from there... oh well, out to the garage!

Thanks for all your help on this... Dean

I pulled the old alternator, had it tested, it was bad. Bought a new one, had it tested, it was good. Now the battery still does not hold a charge.

So I followed "a's" advice from the post yesterday, had the battery tested, slow charged it, cleaned and checked all terminals. Seemed to run, start for about 2hrs then, sputter and die.

I think I have just installed a bad alternator! OR am I missing something. Is there anything else I should I try??

If no one has any suggestions, looks like I am headed to the garage to pull the alternator, battery and go have them both tested after work tomorrow.

Any bets on what it is?

Dean

with the engine running at 1500 rpm,13.5-14.5 vdc should be read across the battery terminals. thats what a good charging system should put out. if thats what you read, then the battery is ng
