I thought it sounded like a good idea to replace the existing thrust arm bushings with poly ones (especially since the one sits right next to the damn exhaust down-pipe), yet my mechanic (whom hasn't steered me wrong yet...so far) said when you have a front end with so many bushings in it, anytime you introduce any 1 componant of diff't rigidness to the mix, the 'upgraded' bushing will cause the others to fail, and will allow too much vibration against the chassis. Instead, when mine were done, he used the 7-series bushings, which are supposed to hold up better then the stock 5's.Thoughts anyone?

I remember someone was selling fron suspension bushings from 750i that are cut to fit E28, in order to get a more long lasting solution to the front-end shimmey problem. Any pointer to who and where that was? Thanks,
Jim

You might consider using solid polyurethane bushings from BMP or RTRS rather than 750il bushings.
I have used poly from both sources with good results.
A link to RTRS is below
