I put a 282 cam, a Dinan chip. K&N filter, 3.73 LS, short shift kit etc on my 85 535i. Was very strong but still not right. Within the past month, I installed an 88 635CSI eng. wiring harness, and ECU. The eng mounts made it a direct bolt in, no fabrication. The 88 intake manifold runners are aprox 1/16 inch larger than the 85. The cold start injector is gone. I had to splice 12 wires. All dash guages work. This later model 3.5 motor and ECU is a fantastic upgrade. Idle is improved, there's more torque, no surging or stumbling on acceleration. Want more chip it and cam it. If BMW felt this eng was enough for a 735iL, on a lighter E28 series it's super.
