... I helped an acquaintance change the oil in his (then) new '91 F-150, putting in Mobil 1 after it had 5K+ miles on it (to make sure it was broken in first). His engine had problems a short time after that (camshaft or some other valvetrain part). The dealer told him it was because of the Mobil 1 and that "your buddy really did a screw job on you by recommending it" and refused to fix it under warranty. Of course, we had receipts, and the dealer had to fix it because the oil was of the proper viscosity and service grade. My acquaintance still blamed me, however.Of course, my '86 535i with 192K and my '57 Chevy with 20K (lots of it running VERY hot due to inadequate cooling) on a rebuild are doing great and they're both on Mobil 1.
Are we now to consider that every time someone has a tranny failure it must be the oil?

This has been covered MANY times on these forums. Redline manual trans fluid causes transmission failures. CHANGE IT IMMEDIATELY!
